Elizabeth Birchall is 81 and long retired from a career in social work and academic research. She writes poetry as a serious 'hobby' and has been published in several anthologies and many 'respectable' poetry magazines over the years. One slim volume celebrating Wychwood, The Forest that Sailed Away, was published in 2000. She very sadly lost her partner to cancer many years ago but has learned to live an interesting, friend-, music- and book-filled life in an attractive Cotswold village.
Alice Tickell is 20 and a student at Oxford University studying Experimental Psychology. Upon graduating, she hopes to pursue a career in mental health. She feels that loneliness is both a cause and an effect of mental health problems, and one potential solution to this problem lies in community-based projects that unite people, both young and old. In her spare time she volunteers with the Oxford Hub and Mind Your Head Campaign.
